Associate Attorney

Shane Kelly is an Associate Attorney at Westfall Law, where he provides versatile legal counsel with a focus on estate planning. Since entering the legal profession, Shane has developed a reputation for navigating complex legal disputes and regulatory environments with a meticulous, detail-oriented approach.

Background

A native of Pittsford, New York, Shane earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the State University of New York at Geneseo before obtaining his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law. During law school, he interned with an international law firm in Washington, D.C., contributed pro bono work through the Syrian Accountability Project, and served as an editor for multiple legal publications, including Syracuse Law Review and Impunity Watch.

Shane’s student note, Money Laundering Through Virtual Worlds of Video Games: Recommendations for a New Approach to AML Regulation, received the Robert M. Anderson Publication Award and was selected for publication in Syracuse Law Review’s Volume 71. He also contributed to legal scholarship and educational resources through his work with the Electronic Discovery Institute, including editorial contributions to Spoliation, 4th Edition.

Before attending law school, Shane spent several years working in law firm administration and operations at a Rochester-area practice, ultimately serving as Office Manager overseeing daily operations for a multi-attorney firm. This experience provided him with a practical understanding of legal operations, client service, and business management that continues to inform his practice today.

Experience

Shane brings a diverse professional background to Westfall Law, ranging from high-stakes civil litigation to in-house corporate counsel roles. Prior to joining the firm, Shane served as Corporate Counsel for Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. (formerly Overstock.com, Inc.), where he managed claims and demands, drafted and reviewed contracts, advised on regulatory compliance matters, and assisted with intellectual property issues.

Shane also practiced civil litigation in Lake Placid, New York, where he represented individual and corporate clients in court and before administrative agencies and municipal bodies. His litigation experience includes land use and zoning matters, commercial foreclosure actions, corporate and contract disputes, CPLR Article 78 proceedings, judgment enforcement, regulatory proceedings, miscellaneous tort and criminal matters.

Interests

Outside of the office, Shane enjoys reading and exploring the beauty of the Finger Lakes region and can often be found hiking local trails or kayaking. Above all, Shane values spending time with his wife, their daughter, and their dog, Sally.
